On a typical day, I don't wear much makeup. A touch of lipstick, mascara and sunscreen will do. It’s interesting to observe my steady transition from a ‘makeup obsessive’ to a complete ’skincare devotee’. I’d partly attribute this transformation to a skincare brand called the Ordinary. I mean, if you’re into beauty, then you’ll know what I’m talking about.  The skincare brand has disrupted the beauty industry with its affordable, effective and wide selection of products. Plus, the majority of their products are vegan and cruelty-free.

I’ll admit that I was at first put off by some unfamiliar chemical ingredients, but by doing some research I found the right products for my skin needs. As far as I can remember, the first thing I bought from the brand was the AHA + BHA serum, which helps to gently exfoliate the skin. Given that I have KP (keratosis pilaris) exfoliation is an integral part of my skincare routine. I use it religiously once a week and my skin is in the best shape because of it. It is important to highlight that if you're in your early to mid-twenties it is not necessary to exfoliate the skin on a daily basis. I made this mistake and have experienced extreme skin sensitivity due to a weakened skin barrier. Avene Skin Recovery Cream and Avene Soothing Moisture Mask helped to ameliorate my fragile skin condition.

One of my absolute favourites thus far is the Buffet serum. It’s known to be the best seller for anti-ageing. I’m a true believer in prevention rather than cure. So I use this every day and night for the past few months. Although I can’t say if it helps with wrinkles (I don’t have them yet), I can attest that my skin is more balanced, hydrated and plump when I use it. Recently I finished up the 30 ml bottle so I immediately repurchased the 60 ml bottle which hopefully will last me for a while.

The Caffeine Solution 5 % has quickly become my staple as it helps with diminishing eye puffiness. Frankly, I’ve been on a long journey to find a suitable product for my under-eye bags and was pretty happy with the Clinique Pep-Start. However, this serum produces more visible results and will most likely last much longer as it contains 30 ml of product. I also love the serum consistency which helps to quickly absorb into the skin.

The Niacinamide + Zinc is another of the Ordinary’s bestsellers and it’s targeted towards blemish-prone and redness-prone skin. Ingredients such as niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and zinc helps to regulate sebum production. I like that it’s a lightweight serum which comes in handy when I have breakouts or skin sensitivity issues. And finally, the  Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% solution which helped me to brighten my upper lip pigmentation within a 4-6 weeks time. I also sometimes use it in combination with my sunscreen as it is known to provide a protective barrier and limits the skin sun damage.
